Jørundgard – Viking and Medieval Centre in Gudbrandsdalen

In the heart of Gudbrandsdalen lies Jørundgard – a living Viking and medieval centre surrounded by history, storytelling, and atmospheric surroundings.
Jørundgard was originally built as the film set for Kristin Lavransdatter, based on Sigrid Undset’s world-famous trilogy about life in medieval Gudbrandsdalen. Today, the site has been further developed into an experience centre where visitors can explore the Middle Ages, the Viking Age, and the people who lived during a time of great change.
Here, you can wander among historic buildings, take part in feasts and events, hear stories of Norse gods, and learn more about the local Viking chieftain Dale-Gudbrand and his encounter with Saint Olav at Hundorp—an event symbolising the transition from Norse beliefs to Christianity in Norway.
The site also features a consecrated stave church, offering space for quiet reflection and a close connection to history. Together with the pilgrim route passing nearby, this makes Jørundgard a natural stop for pilgrims, travellers, and holiday guests seeking a distinctive experience in Gudbrandsdalen.

Throughout the summer, the farmyard comes alive with concerts, family activities, cultural events, and experiences for all ages. To bring history even closer, we also offer digital guiding, allowing visitors to explore the area together with Kristin Lavransdatter as a digital guide.
