The museum is a place for contemplation and activities for visitors of all ages. Experience Lesja’ s history and traditions through exhibitions and demonstrations.
During the summer season, local volunteers will give you a warm welcome and demonstrate traditional baking and various crafts. At the museum there are farm animals, typical for a mountain farm in the 18th and 19th century.
The museum is a great place for children to run around and play, you will also find a play area especially for children. Every Wednesday there are activities for children, where they can participate and try different crafts techniques.
The museum has several exhibitions, were you can learn more about the local history. Our exhibitions span a variety of subjects such as Reindeer hunting, fishing traditions and the history behind Norway’s first national park. You can also experience works by local artists and photographers.
In the museum entrance building, you find our museum shop. Here we offer a variety of handcraft, toys and local products. We also have toilet facilities and a café that is open on weekends.
Next to the museum, you will find Lesja church, built in 1749, and famous for its magnificent woodcarvings. We offer guided tours of Lesja church each day at 1 pm with occasional exceptions, when the church is closed to the public due to private ceremonies.
